On August 19, 2010, the Office of Foreign Assets Control, (“OFAC”), of the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that it has reached a settlement with Banco Colpatria, S.A., (“Colpatria”), for alleged violations of OFAC’s Narcotics Trafficking Sanctions Regulations. The alleged violations stem from activities of Colpatria’s Miami Agency which discontinued operations in 2007. OFAC is a part of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and administers and enforces economic sanctions against targeted foreign countries, regimes, terrorists, international narcotics traffickers, among others.
